Not every haunted location in Ireland is a ruined abbey or a crumbling gaol. Some of the most persistent and well-documented reports come from the streets, squares, and laneways of Ireland's towns and villages - places that are busy by day and a different proposition entirely after dark.
The built-up environment concentrates history in ways that are easy to miss. A town centre street may have been a market, a place of public execution, a famine relief point, and a site of political violence across different centuries, with nothing to mark any of it beyond the occasional heritage plaque. The reports that come from these locations tend to be from people who were simply passing through -and who encountered something they were not looking for and cannot adequately explain.
