Ireland has always had a talent for the eccentric. The follies and curiosities scattered across the island - towers built for no clear purpose, hunting lodges that became bywords for depravity, ruins that defy straightforward classification - tend to attract stories in proportion to how little is understood about them. Uncertainty, it turns out, is fertile ground for folklore.
These are not haunted castles or ruined abbeys with centuries of documented history behind them. They are something stranger - buildings that were odd to begin with, repurposed in ways their builders never intended, and left to accumulate whatever reputation the surrounding community saw fit to give them.
