Youghal Lighthouse, built in 1852, occupies the site of an earlier medieval light once maintained by nuns from a nearby convent.

According to local lore, the lighthouse is haunted by the spirit of a monk. One lighthouse keeper recounted hearing unexplained footsteps echoing through the building, despite being alone at the time. He also claimed to have witnessed the monk’s apparition before it mysteriously vanished into thin air.
