Near the Wood Well in Kilcomeragh, there is a local tradition concerning the ghost of a foreign workman, often described as a Canadian lumberjack. He is said to have been employed in caring for woodland associated with the Palliser family estate in the area.

According to the account, the figure is most often seen on summer evenings, crossing the road close to the well. Witnesses describe him as wearing knee-breeches and a wide-brimmed hat, clothing that suggests an earlier period. His appearance is usually brief and silent, vanishing as quickly as it is noticed.

One of the best-known testimonies came from Mrs Catherine Keating of Briskey Lower, who stated that she encountered the figure roughly thirty years ago. She later maintained that her daughter had seen the same apparition at twilight on a separate occasion. Both described a solitary man moving quietly near the roadside, matching the traditional description.

No written record of this story is known to exist in formal folklore collections or historical archives, and it appears to survive solely as a piece of local oral tradition. Nevertheless, the consistency of the description and the association with a specific place – the Wood Well at Kilcomeragh – has given the story a lasting presence in the area.
