Once in a while, a location pops up on my radar and puts a smile on my naturally sour face. This is one such property – not because the alleged haunting is particularly exciting, but it’s more to do with the house itself. Westown House is a seven-bay mansion house, dating to the eighteenth century. In the 1920s, the property fell in to disrepair and it sat abandoned and unloved for decades. However, in recent years, the property has been totally restored. Sadly, this one isn’t open to the public but it just shows that any property can be saved.

According to a local story, a guest once fell from an upstairs window, and her body was not discovered until the next morning. Her ghost was believed to haunt the house. A poacher was also shot in the grounds, and his ghost is said to wonder the lands to this day. Witnesses have reported hearing the sound of heavy, male breathing approaching them when they have been out walking.
