Tucked just off the corner of Eyre Square in Galway City, the Victoria Hotel sits beside a small church—and, notably, partially over the grounds of its former graveyard. Many believe this connection to the old burial site may be responsible for the hotel’s alleged paranormal activity.
One particularly unsettling account comes from a staff member who worked at the hotel between 2002 and 2003. At the time, he had just acquired a new camera phone and took a few casual photos of the area where he was stationed. Later that weekend, while on shift in the hotel bar, he showed the photos to a colleague.
What they saw in one of the images left them both shaken.
Clearly visible in the photo was the figure of a man wearing a shirt and tie, staring directly at the camera with a cold, unhappy expression. The figure appeared semi-transparent—his outline faint, with the furniture behind him still partially visible through his body. Neither of the men had seen anyone in the area when the photo was taken.
Though the image has never been widely circulated, the story has persisted among those familiar with the hotel.
