Tyrone House was constructed in 1779. The Palladian-style house was designed by John Roberts who also designed Waterford Cathedral and Moore Hall in County Mayo. In its day, it was a fine property surrounded by beautiful gardens and orchards. The house was destroyed during the Irish War of Independence and has been a shell ever since.

The ghost of the original owner, Christopher St. George, is said to haunt the property and has been spotted on occasion walking through the shell of his one-time home. Ethereal footsteps and moans have been heard at the property, while others reported feeling emotions of sadness or anger. Some believe that the man cannot rest as his Protestant family disowned him when he married a Catholic woman.
