The Barbican Centre on William Street stands on the former site of St Peter’s Parochial Hall and was developed during the construction of the nearby Laurence Shopping Centre. Though today it serves as a modern multi-purpose events venue, a number of unsettling stories have emerged from within its walls.

In 2011, CCTV footage taken inside the building appeared to show shadowy, human-shaped forms moving across a corridor when no one was present. The incident drew the attention of a local paranormal investigation team, which later carried out an overnight study on site.

Both the manager and several members of staff have since spoken of recurring unexplained activity — including sudden cold spots, lights switching on and off by themselves, and persistent tapping noises in empty rooms. The Plunkett Studio is said to be particularly uneasy, with employees describing an oppressive atmosphere there. One staff member even reported seeing the dark outline of a man who vanished before their eyes.
