The Argory is a beautifully preserved Neo-Classical mansion nestled along the banks of the River Blackwater in County Armagh. Built around 1820, it was the ancestral home of the MacGeough Bond family for over a century. The house is remarkable not only for its architectural elegance but also for its technological advancements for the time—it was one of the first homes in Ireland to have acetylene gas lighting, a system still preserved today.

Inside, the mansion feels as though time has stood still. Its grand rooms remain filled with original furnishings, personal belongings, and even the distinctive scent of polished wood and old books. Managed by the National Trust since the 1970s, The Argory offers families a safe and immersive glimpse into the life of Ireland’s 19th-century gentry.

A mysterious lady in white has been spotted, wandering through the upper floors of the house. She is often seen standing at windows overlooking the gardens or moving silently along the corridors before vanishing without a trace. Visitors and tour guides have reported hearing the gentle notes of a piano playing in the music room, even when no one is near it. Staff have also spoken of sudden cold chills in warm rooms and sensing that they are being watched, particularly near the grand staircase and in the former nursery. Some have even referenced the sound of soft footsteps following them when the house has been empty.
