In October 2022, a man was walking along Streedagh beach in Sligo, when he saw what appeared to be a glowing figure “walking” on the water. While some believe that this was a lens issue or a reflection on the water, the photographer was adamant that he had captured a ghost.
In 1588, several vessels attached to the Spanish Armarda were wrecked off the coast in this area. Many men perished in the water, while others found their way to the nearby Staad Abbey where they were later executed in accordance with orders laid down by the Lord Deputy and Council. Some believe that the souls who wound up here, whether dead or alive, are still wandering these areas.
