St Patrick’s Church on Donegall Street in Belfast is the subject of a long-standing ghost story involving the spirit of a priest who reportedly died mid-mass. According to legend, the priest’s ghost would occasionally manifest at the altar, solemnly asking if anyone would assist him in completing the unfinished service. Unsurprisingly, most witnesses fled in fear at the sight.
However, one courageous individual is said to have stayed and helped the ghost finish the mass. Once the final blessing was given, the priest’s apparition reportedly took on a look of deep peace and satisfaction – then vanished entirely. He was never seen again, leading many to believe his spirit had finally found rest.
