St. Kevin’s Park (formerly St. Kevin’s Cemetery) is located next to St. Kevin’s College on Camden Street. Within the grounds you will also find the ruins of a small church. Several people of note are interred at the cemetery including Archbishop Dermot O’Hurley who was tortured and hanged in June 1584 when he refused to take the Oath of Supremacy, and accept Queen Elizabeth I as the head of the church and state. Like other graveyards around the city, it was also targeted by body snatchers. The unclaimed bodies of famine victims are also buried here.

According to folklore, the archbishop’s ghost is said to appear on “dark and stormy nights”, offering the Tridentine Mass by his grave. When he raises the host, the vision simply vanishes away.
