Although the building now serves as a school for young people with disabilities, it was originally constructed as the county gaol. In earlier centuries, it is also believed to have been associated with the Coote family, who are said to have resided there for a period.
During its time as a prison, the structure witnessed hardship and confinement, and in later years visitors and occupants have spoken of unsettling experiences within its walls. Some described fleeting, gaunt figures moving through corridors or standing silently in corners, while others claimed to see shadowed forms in chains.
