The Tramore Road has a well-worn reputation when it comes to the paranormal – and this particular stretch, at the roundabout near Precast Products in Ballindud, has its own story to add to that history.
The figure said to haunt this spot is described as a musician – a man in black with long dark hair, believed to have been killed in a road accident somewhere on this stretch. Whether that detail is documented fact or local folk memory passed down alongside the sightings isn’t clear. What is clear is that at least one person has seen something here that stopped them in their tracks.
A woman driving from Waterford towards Tramore came around the roundabout one night and noticed a figure standing at the side of the road – tall, dressed entirely in black, with long black hair. What made it unsettling wasn’t just his appearance. As her headlights swept over him, he stared directly at her. Maintaining eye contact with a driver who has full headlights trained on you takes a certain kind of composure – or suggests something other than an ordinary person standing at a roadside.
As she passed, his gaze stayed locked on her. She checked her rear-view mirror almost immediately. He was gone. A car some distance behind her provided a second sweep of headlights across both sides of the road – and there was nothing there. No figure, no shadow, nobody walking away.
