Have you visited Rossmore Forest Park, and did you have an experience you could not explain? Click “Add Your Experience” and share your story.
Just outside Monaghan Town, Rossmore Forest Park offers a beautiful natural escape filled with scenic walking trails, ancient woodlands, and the haunting remains of Rossmore Castle. Though the castle now stands as little more than ivy-clad ruins, its crumbling walls and the surrounding forest still echo with ghostly tales from centuries past.
One of the park’s most enduring legends is that of the Whispering Woods. Those who venture along the quieter paths often report hearing soft, hushed voices drifting on the breeze, as if unseen figures are sharing secrets among the trees. The whispers seem to follow walkers along the winding trails before fading away into the shadows of the forest—though no living soul is ever found nearby.
Another story tells of the mysterious Lady in White, a graceful apparition seen gliding near the ruins of Rossmore Castle and among the towering yew trees. Believed to be a sorrowful spirit connected to the Rossmore family, she is said to remain forever bound to the land she once called home.
