Once a grand Victorian mansion overlooking Dublin Bay, Redcourt House in Sutton was known locally as the “Haunted House of Horror” due to its long-standing reputation for tragedy, violence, and paranormal activity. Although the house was destroyed by fire and subsequently demolished, its gates still stand—silent markers of a dark and disturbing past.
Historically, the site was said to be haunted. Residents and visitors reported hearing the sound of a horse-drawn coach arriving in the driveway, and ghostly figures were allegedly seen appearing on the upper balcony, reinforcing its eerie reputation.
Redcourt House was also believed by some to be cursed. The property is linked to two known murders: one in the 1980s, and another in 2007. In the latter case, the body of a man was discovered in the burned-out kitchen of the house. He had been set on fire—likely after being murdered—adding to the location’s infamy.
In addition to these violent events, the house is associated with at least one personal tragedy. The only son of a former owner is reported to have died in a freak accident while on holiday in the United States.
Though Redcourt House is now gone, the chilling stories and unexplained phenomena surrounding it have left a lasting imprint on the local area.
