A curious story once circulated locally about a strange sighting at Ramoan Court in Ballycastle, during the early days of the housing development there.
According to the account, a churchgoer had been visiting the nearby Ramoan Church graveyard and was making his way towards the exit when he noticed activity in the adjacent building site. At the time, Ramoan Court was still under construction and the area was separated from the church grounds by a wall.
Curious to see how the development was progressing, the man looked over the wall and spotted what appeared to be a monk-like figure dressed in a dark brown robe walking slowly across the site.
Because it was the weekend and the site should have been deserted, he assumed the figure must have been an intruder. Determined to challenge the stranger, he climbed over the wall and began moving towards him.
However, each time he tried to approach, the robed figure seemed to move further away.
Eventually the man stopped and called out. Just as the figure appeared to turn to face him, it suddenly vanished.
