Rahona Lodge at Carrigaholt was the Keane family’s summer home. In July 1831, Charlotte Hickman Keane wrote that she was given “the little back room inside the drawing room,” known to servants as the Dark Room for the odd noises heard there, and she joked about “the happy little ghost” that could visit whenever it liked. Later retellings shifted the date to the early twentieth century, but the earliest version is Charlotte’s 1831 diary note; the ghost’s reputation at the lodge stems from that “Dark Room” tradition.
