Driving from Sligo to Dromahair along the shores of Lough Gill, numerous motorists have experienced a chilling and unexplained phenomenon. Without warning, a disembodied hand and arm—completely unattached to any body—appears inside the vehicle, either resting on the dashboard or reaching directly for the steering wheel.

One startled witness initially thought it must be a prank—that someone had hidden in the car to frighten him. But after stopping and searching, he found no one there. When he finally reached Dromahair and recounted his incredible experience, the locals were far from surprised. They assured him it was a well-known and frequent occurrence along that stretch of road.

Another driver recalled the night it happened to him. He was behind the wheel of a Wolseley motorcar, driving past a spot near Parke’s Castle, when the ghostly hand appeared, slowly creeping up the dashboard. He reached out to grab it—but found only empty air. The car was completely empty, yet the apparition was accompanied by an indescribably foul stench that seemed to fill the vehicle.

It’s said that Sir Frederick Hamilton of Manorhamilton once committed a brutal murder at that very spot, disposing of the victim’s body in the dark waters of Lough Gill. Ever since, strange and unsettling events have plagued the area. Those who pass by often speak of a deep, lingering unease—and some, of ghostly encounters they’ll never forget.
