Have you visited Phoenix Care Centre, Dublin, and did you have an experience you could not explain? Click “Add Your Experience” and share your story.
Once Ireland’s largest mental asylum, St. Brendan’s in Dublin gained infamy for its severely overcrowded conditions and controversial treatment practices. Opened in the early 19th century, it housed thousands of patients until its closure in 2013.
In 1997, two outpatients of the hospital were staying at a nearby halfway house owned by the same authority when they were brutally murdered in what became known as the Grangegorman Killings. The house was later demolished, leaving behind a barren plot of land.
Today, the site is home to the Phoenix Mental Health Centre. Reusing a location with such a grim history for similar purposes seems to have stirred lingering dark energies. Visitors to the area often report unsettling experiences—eerie moans, disembodied whispers, and fleeting shadows—especially in the parts of the old hospital that remain untouched by redevelopment.
