A former parochial house in the Innishannon area of County Cork has, in recent years, become associated with reports of unexplained activity. The building, described as a two-storey residence set outside the main village, was historically used to house parish clergy.
At some point in the late 20th or early 21st century, the house is said to have fallen out of regular use. Local accounts suggest that clergy became reluctant to reside there, citing ongoing disturbances within the property.
According to reports attributed to the last priest to have lived in the house, a range of unusual occurrences were experienced during his time there. These reportedly included lights switching on and off without explanation, the sound of footsteps in empty rooms, and electrical devices – such as a television – activating or changing channels on their own. It was also claimed that taps would turn on without being touched.
These accounts are anecdotal and have not been independently verified, but they are consistent in their description of repeated disturbances within the house.
Local tradition offers an explanation for the reported activity. It is said that, many years earlier, a person died by suicide within the house and that their body remained undiscovered in an upstairs room for a prolonged period. There is no confirmed record currently linking such an event to the property, and this account should be treated as part of local folklore rather than established fact.
Today, the house is described in local accounts as unoccupied, and its reputation has persisted largely through word of mouth rather than formal documentation.
