A story recorded in the Dúchas Schools’ Collection recounts a series of unsettling events experienced by a husband and wife at Oriel Lodge sometime before the 1930s. According to the account, the house was believed to be haunted by the apparition of a woman dressed entirely in white.
The couple first encountered her one evening when they saw the figure standing silently at the kitchen door. She made no sound and vanished as suddenly as she had appeared — but the disturbances did not end there.
Over the following three nights, the same phantom is said to have returned to their bedroom. Each night, as the couple slept, their blankets were pulled forcefully from the bed, leaving them terrified and bewildered. The repetition of the incident convinced them that what they were facing was no ordinary presence, but a persistent and active haunting linked to the mysterious woman in white.
