A young office worker once reported a series of unsettling paranormal experiences in an office located above a burger restaurant on Grafton Street, near its junction with Nassau Street in Dublin. The office occupied the second floor of an old commercial building reached by a long, narrow staircase. Above it were two additional floors — one used for storage and the top floor locked and unoccupied.

The first strange incident occurred on that staircase. As she climbed the steps, she repeatedly heard fast, heavy footsteps rushing up behind her. Every time, she would instinctively step aside to let someone pass — but no one was ever there. The experience became so common that she came to expect it. On several occasions, the unseen footsteps even raced past her, brushing the air as if a person had physically moved by.

The activity intensified when she arrived early for work — usually an hour before anyone else. Alone in the building, she heard doors slamming somewhere above, even though she knew the upper floors were locked. Sometimes a violent crashing sound echoed from overhead, as though furniture had been thrown or something heavy had fallen. Yet each time she checked, everything remained undisturbed. The dread of being alone in the mornings eventually became overwhelming.

But the final incident was the one that pushed her to leave the job entirely.

One afternoon, while queuing in a nearby burger restaurant with her boyfriend, she suddenly felt someone lean close to her left ear. A deep male voice whispered something directly into it — close enough that she felt warm breath on her skin. She spun around, expecting to confront whoever had spoken, but there was no one behind her. Her boyfriend, who had moved ahead in the queue to place their order, insisted that no one had approached her at all.

Although she could not recall the exact words whispered, the experience shook her so deeply that she resigned soon afterwards. The combined events — the footsteps, the slamming doors, the unexplained crashes, and finally the whisper in the restaurant — were more than she could endure.

To this day, locals and former tenants speculate about what may linger in the upper floors of that old Grafton Street building.
