In the autumn of 2012, reports of unexplained activity began to surface from the newly built Newtown Meadows Estate on the southern edge of Drogheda. The development had been left largely empty after the financial crash, with only a handful of houses occupied — but for several of those residents, life there became deeply unsettling.
Over the course of several weeks, occupants described children’s toys turning on by themselves, even when batteries were removed, along with loud bangs, unexplained footsteps, and the sound of people moving through empty rooms.
The local team Boyne Paranormal Investigators were called in to examine the claims. During their overnight vigils they reported sudden temperature drops, faint voices captured on EVP, and anomalous EMF readings in properties that were otherwise unpowered.
Though no cause was ever determined, witnesses agreed that the activity seemed focused in four particular houses. Some speculated that the estate’s location — lying close to the River Boyne and only a short distance from the historic Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge — might account for its uneasy atmosphere.
Today, Newtown Meadows is fully occupied, and talk of its strange early days has faded into local folklore. Yet those who were there in 2012 still recall the unnerving feeling that something unseen walked those quiet, half-finished streets at night.
