Built in 1736, Newbridge House in Donabate is considered Ireland’s best intact Georgian mansion.

Local tradition says an ancestor of the Cobbe family (“Mr Cobbe”) drives a coach drawn by six headless horses past the front door at midnight. The event is said to be signalled by a gate opening and shutting. Some versions say the coach is no longer seen, only the gate sound. Date of origin unknown; the tradition was noted locally in the 1930s and is treated here as folklore rather than verified history.
