Nelson Street once linked Blucher Street to the Lecky Road. During a harsh winter, a woman, on the brink of death, lay in the street and begged a nearby family to care for her child. The family took the child in, but mistreated him. Soon after, strange and unexplainable events began to occur in the house—eerily cold wails, objects flying around, and a series of misfortunes plagued the family. Many believed it was the vengeful spirit of the woman, returning from the grave to haunt them for their neglect of her child. The house remained standing until the late 1960s, but by then, locals avoided the area, often crossing the road to steer clear of it.
