A family home on Mountrath Road in Portlaoise became the site of a terrifying series of paranormal events, with most of the activity focused in the bedroom of the couple’s five-year-old son.

At first, the signs were subtle. The mother noticed small but unexplained occurrences—doors and curtains she had closed would be open again moments later, and both the television and PlayStation would switch on by themselves while she was cleaning the room.

Her young son began refusing to play in his bedroom, telling her that he constantly heard someone whispering his name just behind his ear and felt a presence breathing over him as he tried to fall asleep. Eventually, his fear became so overwhelming that he refused to even enter the room, let alone sleep in it.

Despite these troubling signs, the mother initially remained unaware of the extent of the presence in the house. But things escalated. She began to hear the sound of running footsteps on the landing, heavy banging noises, toys being flung against the floor, and shadowy movements flickering through the upstairs rooms.

The breaking point came one evening when she put her younger son to bed in his cot with a bottle. Moments later, the child began crying uncontrollably. Rushing upstairs, she was stunned to find the bottle—previously placed securely in the cot—now perched on top of a tall chest of drawers, pushed all the way back against the wall. It would have been impossible for the child to have moved it himself. Shaken and desperate, the family called a priest the next day. He blessed every room in the house, but when he entered the eldest boy’s bedroom, he reportedly paused and said he could feel a distinctly malevolent presence. He even remarked that he found it difficult to breathe in the room.

What followed after the blessing remains unknown—but the events on Mountrath Road left the family convinced that something truly unnatural had taken hold of their home.
