Millmount Museum, housed within Millmount Fort, opened to the public as a military museum in 2000. The fort itself has a storied history, originally built in 1172 by the Normans. During the Irish Civil War in 1922, it was occupied by Anti-Treaty forces but came under heavy shelling by Pro-Treaty forces on July 4th, leading to the Anti-Treaty retreat.
A paranormal investigation team reported encountering several unexplained phenomena during their visit. They recorded the voices of children talking and singing nursery rhymes and witnessed the apparition of a soldier in full military uniform stepping forward. Other reported activity included the sounds of gunfire and cannon fire from downstairs, a dog barking, traditional music playing, the ringing of the upstairs bell, and sudden icy chills in various rooms.
