In 1914, a tenant residing at Middleton House, was awoken during the night by a loud “snorting sound”. He went to investigate, only for it to reoccur right by him. The man passed out in fright and left the property shortly after. The account references that he was also pushed out of his bed by an unseen force, but it isn’t clear whether this happened in the house or in the property he moved on to. Another former tenant reportedly had the same experience.
