A former female resident of a flat on Main Street in Maynooth experienced a series of unsettling paranormal events over a span of three years. The flat, situated above a hardware store, occupies a building that dates back to the mid-1800s.

One night, while attempting to fall asleep, she was suddenly overcome by an uneasy feeling. Moments later, she heard a persistent knock, knock, knock coming from the back of her bedroom wardrobe.

In another incident, after forgetting her keys, she entered the hardware store to retrieve a spare. As she climbed the stairs to her flat, she was startled by the sound of footsteps rushing toward her from around the hall corner. Panicked, she ran the rest of the way inside. What made the experience particularly unsettling was the layout—reaching the flat required climbing a flight of stairs, turning a corner, and walking down two halls—yet she was certain she was alone in that section of the building.

The woman described the atmosphere in the flat as eerie and, at times, hostile. She believed the presence haunting the space was that of a middle-aged man, possibly a former owner who harbored resentment toward women and was displeased with what had become of his home. Interestingly, no male residents ever reported experiencing any paranormal activity.
