In 1980, a family of five moved into a three-storey terraced house on Llewellyn Avenue in Lisburn, County Antrim. The terraces, built in 1906, had stood for decades by then, and for the first two weeks, the family settled in happily. But soon, unexplained events began to unfold.

Their eight-year-old daughter was the first to mention anything unusual. She told her parents about a kind old lady who lived on the first floor. Assuming it was simply a child’s imagination, her parents dismissed the comment. But just days later, something curious happened. As the family prepared to head out, the mother noticed a tear in her skirt. Setting it aside and saying, “I’ll fix that later,” she changed and left without a second thought. Yet when they returned home, she found the skirt perfectly mended. Baffled, she wondered if someone had somehow come into the house to repair it. She didn’t yet realise this was the handiwork of the “kind old lady” her daughter had seen.

From that day on, the spirit—known to the family as Molly—made her presence known in other ways. Poltergeist activity was reported, particularly in the kitchen, where cutlery and crockery would rattle without cause. In 1983, after the birth of the couple’s fourth child, the activity took a more unsettling turn. One day, while the mother was alone downstairs, she suddenly heard the upstairs curtains swish open, as though someone were pulling them back. Panicked, she called a neighbour to investigate, but nothing unusual was found. Then, a voice echoed through the house: “I am Molly. I am not here to hurt you.”

Molly’s spirit, it seemed, hadn’t meant to frighten anyone and tried to reassure the family. But by December 1983, the family had decided to leave the house. As they packed their remaining belongings, Molly gave them a final farewell. A gentle voice drifted through the empty rooms: “Goodbye, I’ll miss you.”

It is believed that Molly was once a former resident of the house.
