The Lismore Workhouse was constructed in 1840 and was designed to accommodate up to 500 inmates. In later years, the property was used as a hospital, then as a training centre for the local fire brigade. It is now a private residence.
When fire officers were training here, it is said that they would sometimes hear strange voices calling on their radios. Other strange occurrences have also been reported here, but I can find no detailed information.
