The modern glass and concrete of Laois Shopping Centre seems an unlikely place for a haunting, yet in 2020 a curious tale began to circulate.

A visitor standing by the central fountain reported seeing coins fly through the air and drop into the water — even though no one else was nearby. Stranger still, when they later checked their pocket, they discovered three old ha’penny pieces that had not been there before.

On another occasion, a mobile phone on display inside the Tesco store was said to have been hurled to the ground by unseen hands, startling onlookers.

The story spread quickly online, picked up by local groups and even the press. Some dismissed it as exaggeration, others swore they too had seen odd movements by the fountain.
