Knockdrin Castle was was built for Sir Richard Levinge and dates to the nineteenth century.

The ghost of Henry Levinge has reportedly been spotted in the woodlands by local people. He died by his own hand and was therefore denied the right to a burial in consecrated ground, so he was laid to rest in the woods. When his brother (another Richard) passed away some time later, he was buried alongside his brother as a mark of protest to how he had been treated.

According to a folktale, The Beicadáin (described as “foal like” by some and “bird like” by others) was sometimes also spotted in the woods. His appearance signified an impending death in the Levinge family.
