The original Killymoon Castle, constructed in 1671, was destroyed by fire in 1801. It was subsequently rebuilt in 1803 on a larger scale, following a design by the renowned architect John Nash.
The grounds are reportedly haunted by the ghost of a young boy that drowned in the lake, while a former resident once recalled that, as a child, she would hear ghostly footsteps going up and down a staircase. The then owner was not aware that this staircase existed until they were shown a long concealed door leading to a hidden set of stairs.
