Jones’s Road in Drumcondra is named after Frederick (“Buck”) Jones. Jones was born in 1759, and he was well educated and charismatic. At the height of his career, he was very involved with the theatre, but a run of bad luck lead to him ending his days in poverty, relying on the good will of his friends to survive.
After his death in 1834, it was said that his ghost would often be seen here and in the vicinity of his onetime home at Clonliffe House – now known as “The Red House” on Clonliffe Road.
