In 2003, a solicitor involved in the sale of a property in the town was approached, only a month after the sale had completed, by the young couple he had sold it to. They wanted to sell up and leave. When he pressed them for an explanation, what they told him was difficult to dismiss.
Their four-year-old daughter had become the focus of something in the house. Plates placed in front of her at mealtimes flew from the table. Furniture in her bedroom moved without anyone touching it. The activity was persistent and targeted, and it escalated. In the end, the family left not because of the physical disturbances but because whatever was in the house began to show itself – to reveal itself in visible form. The details of what they actually saw were not recorded in the account as it was submitted.
The house has not been identified, the family have not been named, and the nature of the apparition remains undescribed. The account survives as it was passed on – through the solicitor who heard it directly from the people who lived it. No further documentation of the property or its history has come to light.
