Several years ago, one particular house in the Moss Park area of Derry began attracting attention for unusual activity. According to accounts from former residents, the property was believed to be haunted by the spirit of a young girl who seemed more playful than threatening.
Those living in the house described seeing the little figure appear on the upstairs landing, often with a doll tucked under her arm, as though she were simply wandering her own home. Toys belonging to the children in the house were regularly moved from one place to another, and on more than one occasion objects went missing entirely.
One incident involved an important letter that never arrived, even though the organisation that issued it insisted it had been posted. Weeks passed without any sign of it. Intrigued by the reports of a child spirit, a medium visited the house and, as the story goes, immediately focused on the chimney breast. Without hesitation, she peeled back wallpaper and discovered the missing letter hidden inside — despite the fact that the wallpapering had been done long before the letter was ever sent.
Not long after the medium’s visit, disaster struck. A fire broke out in the house, causing considerable damage and forcing the family to leave. Curiously, from that point onward, no further sightings of the little ghost girl were ever reported.
Residents in the area still occasionally talk about the Moss Park haunting, wondering whether the fire somehow brought the child’s lingering presence to an end — or whether she simply moved on once her story had been noticed.
