A 1988 article from a local Armagh newspaper, headlined “Crying Child Haunts House, Says Family”, detailed an unsettling series of events that forced two families to flee the same property within just five days. According to the report, both families were driven out by what they described as the relentless cries and disturbances caused by the ghost of an infant.

The apparition was far from passive. Beyond emitting disembodied wails during the early hours of the morning, the phantom child was said to bang loudly and persistently on the walls, creating such a racket that it left both sets of residents terrified. One family described the atmosphere in the house as “oppressive” and said the disturbances were unlike anything they had ever encountered.

The final tenants—a pair of newlyweds hoping to make the house their first home—lasted less than 24 hours. They were reportedly so overwhelmed with fear that they abandoned the property at 12:45 a.m., just hours after moving in. Before leaving, they contacted a local priest in desperation. However, the priest declined to enter the specific part of the house where the crying was heard, stating only that he “didn’t want to disturb anything.”

The case remains one of the more dramatic short-term hauntings reported in Northern Ireland during the late 20th century, and while the exact address was never revealed publicly, locals in Armagh have long speculated about the identity of the house and the tragic origins of the cries.
