The Hook Lighthouse dates to 1172, and is one of the oldest working lighthouses in the world. The lighthouse was automated in 1996, but the site now operates as a museum where visitors will learn all about life in a lighthouse, from medieval times to the current day.
The lighthouse was built by William Marshal, and its is believed that he still keeps watch over operations. His presence has even been eluded to by visiting mediums, though they could of course had prior knowledge. Other visitors have however reported a “heavy” feeling in and around the tower. At one point in its history, the property was managed and maintained by monks from the Priory of Saint Augustine. This might explain why the ghost of a monk has been spotted walking around the property on several occasions.
The nearby cottage are also reputedly charged with energy, with visitors reporting a sense that they are being watched.
