Have you visited Glenquin Castle, and did you have an experience you could not explain? Click “Add Your Experience” and share your story.
Standing since 1462, this tower house in the heart of the Golden Vale carries a dark and sinister legacy. A site of numerous battles and crucial in defending West Limerick during invasions, the castle has long been soaked in bloodshed, with violence continuing as recently as 1916 during the Easter Rising, when Glenquin Castle served as the rallying point for the West Limerick Republicans. It is believed that the castle’s eerie atmosphere and the pervasive sense of dread stem from the blood of fallen enemies, which is said to have been mixed into the mortar during its construction. Even crows are said to avoid flying over the tower, too fearful of the darkness that resides within.
