Built in the early 19th century and later transformed into a grand estate by Richard ‘Boss’ Croker, the flamboyant Tammany Hall figure and racehorse owner, Glencairn House still bears his presence long after his death in 1922.

According to P. F. Byrne’s Ghosts of Old Dublin (1976), Croker’s spectral form has been seen drifting through the gardens and corridors, as though keeping watch over the house he poured his fortune into. Former staff and visitors to the property—now the British Ambassador’s residence—have spoken of a tall, shadowy figure moving quietly past the windows or pausing on the terrace before fading into the night air.
