Have you visited Firmount House, and did you have an experience you could not explain? Click “Add Your Experience” and share your story.
Built in the 1870s as a private residence, Firmount House took on various roles over the decades, each leaving its mark on the building’s history.
In 1917, it was leased as a hospital for wounded Irish soldiers during World War I. Later, throughout the 1940s and 1950s, it served as the county sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, a time marked by many deaths within its walls. By 1967, during the Cold War, the property was handed over to the Department of Defence to function as a Civil Defence Headquarters for Dublin and Kildare.
Now standing unoccupied, Firmount House is said to be haunted by spirits from its time as a TB hospital. Paranormal investigators have reported encounters with the ghost of a matron who once cared for the afflicted patients, further cementing its reputation as a site of lingering echoes from the past.
