Fintra sits on a quiet stretch of coastline a few kilometres from Killybegs in southwest Donegal – a beach, a river, and the kind of rural landscape that feels undisturbed. The bridge that crosses the stream here is an unremarkable structure by daylight. After dark, or at least according to those who have been there at the right moment, it is something else.

A woman with red hair has been seen sitting on the bridge with a child, both of them looking down at the water below. They do not speak and do not move towards anyone who approaches. They simply sit there, and then they are gone. No identity has been attached to either figure and no historical event has come to light that might account for them. The account rests on a small number of witness reports with no further documentation. Whether the woman and child are connected to the water beneath the bridge, or to something in the wider history of this part of Donegal, remains unknown.
