Enniscorthy Castle was constructed towards the end of the 12th century on the site of an earlier castle, constructed entirely from wood. The “newer” stone castle has survived through turbulent times and has been home to Norman knights, Cromwellian soldiers, Irish rebels and prisoners, and wealthy merchant families. Today, the castle (now restored) is open to the public, and a local paranormal group hosts periodic events for would-be ghost hunters.

Numerous spirits are believed to roam the castle corridors, although I can find no specific details of individual hauntings. One documented account however refers to an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) recorded by a visiting group. Their scanner identified a spirit by the name of “Jim” and he revealed sufficient information for the group to access Census records dating to 1901, which verified the details he provided.
