A reported haunting at a property on Edinburgh Street in Belfast dates to around 2011, when a young couple moved into the property.

Initially, the activity described was subtle. The house was said to feel unusually cold, even during the summer months. Kitchen cupboards were found open in the mornings despite having been closed the night before, and on at least one occasion the back door was discovered ajar, though it had been locked. During the night, the male occupant reported difficulty sleeping and an unsettling sensation that his foot was being slowly pulled across the bed while he lay half-awake.

For several months, these incidents remained unexplained but relatively mild.

The situation changed following a conversation with a neighbour. According to the account, an elderly woman referred to the property as a “haunted house” and described a story connected to a former family who had lived there. In her telling, a violent argument between the parents escalated, and their young child – drawn from bed by the disturbance – was pushed down the stairs and killed.

There is no verified historical record linking such an event to this address, and the account appears to be part of local storytelling rather than documented fact.

Shortly after hearing this story, the couple reported a clear escalation in activity.

One night, the female occupant awoke to find her partner apparently speaking or muttering toward a dark figure at the end of the bed. On another evening, returning home alone, she described seeing a shadow at the top of the stairs. When she turned on the light, she believed she briefly saw the figure of a young boy before it disappeared.

Disturbed by the experience, she left the house and went to stay with a friend in the Strandmillis area. As she left, she later claimed to have glimpsed the figure again when looking back toward the property.

The final incident occurred while both occupants were in the house together. As they lay in bed, they heard a faint sound described as soft whimpering. According to their account, the sound gradually intensified into a loud, distressed wail. When the boyfriend went to investigate, opening the door and checking the house, nothing was found.

Following this incident, the couple chose to leave the property the following week.
