Dunsandle Castle in County Galway already has the appearance of a classic haunted location. The 15th-century castle was built for a wealthy landowner before it passed to the merchant Burke family and later the Dalys. The castle had fallen into ruin by the end of the 18th century but has thankfully been restored in recent years.

I cannot determine whether a particular story relating to a haunted mantlepiece is based here or at Dunsandle House! My theory is that it would be more like the other location, but I have included this one as well so that you can make up your own mind. Besides, this is a castle so surely that must be haunted too anyhow, right?

According to local legend, a ghost was particularly fond of a stone mantelpiece, so much so that when a stonemason removed it, the ghost attached itself to the artifact and began to wreak havoc in the workshop. The stonemason experienced poltergeist activity and heard strange sounds during the night, including the sound of a fiddle playing. When the stonemason eventually reinstated the mantelpiece in its rightful home, the disturbances at his home immediately ceased.
