As recorded on Duchas.ie, this chilling account was shared by Mr. Peter Kelly, who described a paranormal experience while driving in the 1930s.
Peter had been hired by a group of ladies from New Ross to drive them to Dublin. The outward journey passed without incident, but their return late that night took a strange turn. Around 11:30 p.m., they reached a crossroads marked with the usual direction sign. None of the passengers could recall the exact route they had taken that morning. One woman pointed out that they could save distance by taking the road marked “15 miles to Arklow” instead of the longer 20-mile route. The suggestion seemed sensible—so they took the shorter road.
At one point, the road became a long, straight stretch. In the distance, they saw a lorry approaching—its headlights fully illuminated. As it drew nearer, it appeared to veer toward their side of the road. Alarmed, the women urged Peter to pull in tightly to the ditch. He assured them he was already as close as he could get.
Still, the oncoming vehicle didn’t correct course. It seemed certain a crash was imminent. The women screamed, covered their eyes, and began to pray—fully expecting a fatal collision.
But then, something impossible happened.
The lorry passed through their car. Silently. Without a sound or impact.
Shaken and confused, Peter brought the car to a stop. Everyone got out to inspect the road, utterly stunned but thankful to be alive. There was no sign of the lorry. No wreckage. No tail lights in the distance. Nothing at all.
It had simply vanished.
The entire party was left deeply rattled. Several of the women required time to recover from the shock.
