One summer morning in the early 1960s, two young sisters were walking together along a familiar route to the local shop through Doorly Park in Sligo town. As they crossed the green, they noticed a small woman walking a short distance ahead of them on the same footpath.
What immediately struck the girls was her appearance. She was unusually tiny in stature and dressed in a deep wine-coloured outfit that seemed oddly formal for an ordinary morning walk. She wore a hat adorned with a single feather, a short cape trimmed with white fur, and carried a small muff held neatly in front of her.
The sisters followed at a steady pace, watching her as she continued along the path. Without warning, the woman veered gently off the footpath and moved towards the grassy bank that sloped down beside it. Instead of stepping down as one would expect, she appeared to float smoothly down the incline.
Within seconds, she vanished completely — no sound, no movement, and no sign of where she had gone. The girls ran to the edge of the bank, certain they would see her below, but there was nothing there. The woman had simply disappeared.
