In 2006, a paranormal investigation was conducted within a cluster of cottages at Doagh Famine Village, an open-air heritage site that explores Irish life from the Famine period through to the late twentieth century.
Investigators reported little activity across the wider site. However, one particular area drew attention. According to accounts gathered at the time, an elderly female presence was said to be observed there – described as a seated figure who quietly watches visitors as they move through the exhibit. Some witnesses have suggested the sensation of being observed, while others claimed the figure appeared to follow them subtly as they passed.
Additional reports from visitors have included fleeting shadow-like forms crossing their path and, in some cases, appearing to fade into walls.
A seat has since been placed in this area, partly as a light-hearted nod to the story of the “old lady” said to oversee the space. For some visitors, the experience has proved unexpectedly moving. A small number have reportedly expressed such a connection to the site that they arranged for their ashes to be scattered in the Village after their passing.
